Born in Hodge, Louisiana to a family of nine, Lightning Ned Mitchell has been an integral part of many people’s lives. He initially thought he would become a preacher instead of going to college and getting drafted into the NFL. After serving two years in Vietnam, he realized that God had given him the way to minister in life—through the creation of a women’s professional basketball league (WBA) and everything revolving around it. Lightning Mitchell is the founder of the WBA. In an era when women had to go overseas to pursue their dream of playing professional basketball after college, Lightening had a vision given by GOD to create a professional league for women right here in the United States. And in doing that this is where the WNBA came from. He is most grateful that God has allowed him to know the importance of having him as his Lord and Savior, something more important than life itself. He is also thankful to be a part of the lives of all who can read The Vision.
