Villa Serena Owners
Bill Dennis
Bill leads our team by offering workshops in stress management and practice building as well as facilitating of our groups. He is passionate about supporting clinicians, leading our retreat program and workshops at our retreat center, Villa Serena. He also thrives on leading our team and in creating success for health and wellness providers.
Bill originally founded Practice Success as an effort to introduce integrative coaching and consulting to clinicians. He believed that the time had come to ‘reinvent’ the health industry by creating networks of likeminded, forward-thinking individuals – starting in greater DC and NYC. As they began to work together, these interdisciplinary, collaborative groups
began to expand the perspectives of its members. This offshoot project eventually evolved into a thriving program, now known as Metro Collaborative. It has attracted various health professionals looking for new techniques to expand their businesses and connect with other innovators.

Weather in July
July is one of the hottest times to visit Samana, a popular seaside resort town in the sun-soaked Caribbean nation of the Dominican Republic. During this month, temperatures of up to 31°C are the norm in the afternoon, while the evenings cool down to a pleasant average low temperature of 23°C. Those two temperatures are the highest of the entire year—similar to those in August. The overall day temperature averages 27°C this time of year.
Swimming is a popular activity-year round. Now, the sea temperature is 28°C warm, a very comfortable temperature for dips in the blue Caribbean waters.
The most common rainfall type in July is thunderstorms, which happen on 46% of the 12 days with precipitation. Other possible types are light rain and moderate rain, respectively recorded on 28% and 22% of those days. Heavy rain happens on merely 5% of the wet days. The total amount of rainfall is 77mm, which makes July the sixth wettest month of the year after the four following months and April. The chance of experiencing any type of rainfall ranges between 55% in the beginning of the month and 48% at the end of the month.

Tourist Attractions
Things to Do in Samana
ATV Adventure
With 9 hours of sunshine per day, April is month that is ideal for sunbathing and swimming. If, however, you want some more action during your holiday, there are plenty of options to choose from. For example, consider going on an ATV adventure. These 4.5-hour trips are a great deal of fun and include pick-up from any hotel in Samana, Las Galeras and Las Terrenas, your own quad bike rental, a visit to renowned Playa Rincon, and stops to swim in rivers.
Boca el Diablo
Boca el Diablo, literally Mouth of the Devil in English, is one of the most popular sites to visit in Samana. This natural attraction is made up of a large blowhole set in stone, which sprays out a mixture of air and water at tremendous speeds due to the underlying wave action. This spot also offers fantastic sea views, so don’t forget to take your camera.
Carnival
February happens to be when Carnival takes place all over the Dominican Republic. This is without question the most colourful and liveliest event of the year. This wonderful event lasts several days and features parades, dancing and music—all according to authentic Caribbean tradition. Consider heading to one of the larger cities in the country for this spectacle, such as Santo Domingo. Another option is the small town of San Pedro de Macoris, where the renowned Guloya dancers are a sight to see—they have been declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
El Limon Waterfall
Combine a horse riding excursion and a trip to the spectacular El Limon Waterfall with Rancho Santi. On this trip you will be paired up with a horse and begin your journey to the falls under the guidance of one or two experienced English-speaking guides. After you have visited the waterfall, you will be treated to a traditional Dominican meal on your way back to the ranch.
Escape Tours Samana
A fun activity is sport fishing or deep sea fishing. While this can be done throughout the entire year, this month is especially great for fishing for a variety of fish—sea bream, wahoo, barracuda, white marlin and sailfish in particular. December is also one of the best months to go deep sea fishing. Visit Escape Tours Samana to arrange a fishing trip on the waters surrounding the Samana Peninsula.
Escapada Samana
In case you rather stay firmly on land, you can visit the wonderful Lulu Waterfall, which, because of the 104mm of rainfall in November, is quite spectacular this time of year. You can get there on your own or with a tour company. Escapada Samana organises guided trips to the Lulu Waterfall and beautiful Playa El Valle.
Grand Paradise Resort
Another fantastic thing to do this time of year, a time of plentiful sunshine and warm temperatures, is visiting the Kaio Natural Aquarium. Situated a few hundred metres from the Grand Paradise Resort, this open-air sea aquarium allows you to actually dive in and swim and snorkel among tropical fish.
H20 Diving & Watersports
As a winter sun holiday destination, Samana is ideal for anyone looking to head straight to the beach and work on their tan, which may well be one of your top activities during your holiday in Samana. However, for those who want to do more with their time here than simply lie out in the sun, the coast is still a great place to be, as there are plenty of water sports to be done, ranging from fishing and sailing to diving, snorkelling, surfing and jet skiing. In fact, Samana has some of the best conditions for water sports in the whole of the Dominican Republic. If you feel like doing some—any—kind of water sport, head over to H20 Diving & Watersports and they will take care of you.
Iguanario Los Tocones
A completely different attraction in Samana to visit in May is the Iguanario Los Tocones, Iguana Farm in English. This place protects the threatened rhinoceros iguanas, which are native to the island of Hispaniola. Interestingly enough, it’s not human development or aggressive predators that threaten the future of this species of lizard, but the fact that they are wanted by zoos from all over the world. The farm breeds these lizards and reintroduces them into nature.
This is a great place for a visit, interesting for both adults and children alike. It is located just west of Arroyo del Cabo and to the southwest of popular Las Galeras.
Moto Marina Tours
As the driest month of the year, February is arguably the best time of year to explore the underwater world around the Samana Peninsula as visibility is never better than now. There are several great snorkelling sites along the coast. Additionally, because Samana is still less crowded than other destinations in the Dominican Republic, you will be able to enjoy many peaceful hours in the subtropical water. It is recommended to book a snorkelling trip with a local tour operator, as they know the best spots. Check out Moto Marina Tours, for instance.
Phillippe Pollet
August is the third wettest month of the year, so if you’re seeking shelter during one of the afternoon downpours, consider heading into some of the local shops in Samana Town. You can find everything you could possibly need in the supermarket and pharmacy, but grocery shopping is probably not what you consider a fun activity. Instead, consider buying some of the exquisite wooden art made by Frenchman Phillippe Pollet, which is arguably the greatest souvenir you can buy in the area.
Rudy’s Rancho
A particularly great way to explore the local area and enjoy the 9 hours of daily sunshine and warm weather that characterise June is horse riding. With Rudy’s Rancho, you can choose to trek through the shady forest parts of the island or opt for a romantic ride on the beach at sunset. Rudy is very knowledgeable about the area and will be able to tell you about everything you see along the way. People who aren’t used to riding a horse may feel fairly sore the following day. To avoid that, consider getting a massage afterward!
